Baptism

Being baptized is an important step for every Christian to take. It is an outward symbol of the inner commitment to Jesus. Because of this, we think a celebration is in order whenever someone in the FreeChurch family makes this public declaration!

There are three steps to being baptized at FreeChurch:

  • Attend the informational baptism class.
  • Fill out a baptism form and testimony.
  • Record a testimony video.

What is Baptism?

  1. Baptism is a symbol of one’s new life as a follower of Christ.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!  (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV)
  2. Baptism is the symbol of the new covenant.
When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.  You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.  (Colossians 2:11–14 NLT)
  3. Baptism symbolizes Christ’s death and resurrection.
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.  (Romans 6:4 NLT)

Jesus Commanded It

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. (Matthew 28:19–20 NIV)

Jesus Led By Example

When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. (Luke 3:21 NIV)

We Celebrate It!

Through baptism, we celebrate Christ’s resurrection, reminding us of our new life in Christ. This is a celebration, so invite your friends and family to be a part of this special occasion!
